The exam is taken at an official DUO exam centre on a computer. Questions are in Dutch and cover real-life situations in the Netherlands. You do not need to memorise facts — you need to understand how Dutch society works.
Every KNM exam question falls into one of these seven categories. Knowing them helps you study more efficiently.
Employment contracts, minimum wage, UWV, sick leave, unions, and starting a business.
Renting, buying, housing associations (woningcorporaties), municipality, tenants' rights.
GP (huisarts), health insurance (zorgverzekering), pharmacy, emergency services.
Dutch school types, childcare, compulsory education, libraries.
Parliament, elections, voting rights, rule of law, separation of powers.
WWII, the Dutch Golden Age, national holidays, and key events in Dutch history.
Freedom of expression, anti-discrimination, gender equality, social norms in the Netherlands.
20–30 minutes of daily practice is more effective than cramming once a week. Use the topic-specific question sets to focus on your weakest areas.
After each question, read the explanation — even if you answered correctly. Understanding why an answer is right matters more than memorising it.
Do at least one full 45-question, 40-minute timed mock exam before your real exam. Time pressure is a skill — practice it in advance.
Every question on this platform has been written and validated by Marieke Schipper, a certified NT2 teacher with 10+ years of experience in inburgering and Dutch language education.
Most online KNM practice platforms use crowd-sourced or AI-generated questions that contain errors. Our questions are the real thing — the same level of difficulty, the same format, validated by a professional.

"I see students fail the KNM exam not because they don't study, but because they practice with wrong questions. Everything here is checked — question by question."
